US export sales

Yesterday’s export report disclosed sales of 143,200 running bales of upland cotton and 4,400 of Pima during the week ended December 30. The cumulative total (all cotton) for the season to that date now stands at just below 11 million bales, equivalent to nearly 73 percent of USDA’s forecast for 2021/22 but over 9 percent behind the corresponding figure a year earlier.

Destination-wise, upland sales to China are down 12 percent from the same point last season, and those to Vietnam show a decline of 43 percent. By contrast, registrations for Turkey have more than doubled, and those for Pakistan are up by more than 18 percent, raising those two destinations to second and third, respectively, in order of magnitude, while Vietnam has slipped to fourth place.
