Turkish imports reach new high in March

Raw cotton imports in March amounted to 109,574 tonnes – believed to be the highest monthly total on record. The total for the first eight months of the (August/July) statistical season is raised to 581,449 tonnes, which compares with the 538,129 tonnes imported during the same period of the 2014/15 season.

The United States was the single largest source of supply during March, accounting for 40,515 tonnes, a volume thought to have been boosted by the desire of spinners and merchants to complete shipments prior to the introduction of anti-dumping duties earlier this month. Other major origins included Central Asia (21,397 tonnes), Brazil (16,767), Greece (10,899), West Africa (9,344), India (3,797) and Syria (1,594).
