Disappointing outcome of Azeri harvest
Weather conditions have deteriorated of late, as a result of which the cotton harvest has come to an end. According to private estimates, around 40,000/41,000 tonnes of seed cotton have been gathered, suggesting a potential lint output of some 14,000/15,000 tonnes. This would mark the second, consecutive season of low output, from an area under cotton that is the smallest in recent history. The entire crop is likely to be absorbed by the domestic spinning sector; very little raw cotton nowadays is exported.
