Argentine harvest hindered by more rain
Rain returned to Chaco province over last weekend, which will further delay the cotton harvest. Heavy downpours were received in the vicinity of Villa Angela, in the south west Chaco, where over 70 millimetres were recorded over the night of May 3/4. This is the latest in a succession of untimely wet spells, which have hampered the progress of cotton to maturity, and disrupted the picking of early-sown fields. Some concerns are now being voiced with regard to the potential effect on the quality of cotton, where open bolls have been exposed to the wet weather. Rainy. overcast conditions have persisted in recent days, but are expected to clear over the next day or two.
